Anyone know how to get around Barracuda web filter?

04 May

We have a barracuda web filter on our computers at work. The problem is it blocks a lot of general stuff that is not obscene or objectionable. It makes my job a bit more difficult. We are supposed to call the IT guys and give them the website address to unblock certain sites, but they are not always in their office. Any Suggestions?

No simple way to unblock it, these routers go out of their way to prevent workarounds. You may want to try using a site like Logmein.com that allows access to your home pc (you obviously need to leave it on) , you install a program on your home pc, sign up with logmein, choose something like port 80 , and follow the instructions to access your machine from a remote location. If you can connect to your machine then you should be in good shape. It’s not guaranteed to work as Baraccuda can filter our particular types of traffic like remote desktop.. If you really need access all the time consider a data plan from a cellular provider.
